200m World’s highest double-line railway bridge

Construction has finished on this remarkable Chinese bridge – a double-line railway 200m above the ground thought to be the highest of its kind in the world.

The ‘Cai Gugou’ double-line railway in Peilin, Chongqing, is 2050m long, and has just been completed.

When it is opened to the public, it will halve the travelling time for train passengers between Chongqing and Shanghai.

The Cai Gugou ‘super-large bridge’, may be the tallest double-liner, but amazingly, it is far from the tallest rail bridge in the world.

The Beipanjiang River Railway Bridge, completed in 2001, stands an impressive 235 metres high.

Both of those will be dwarfed by the Chenab River Railway Bridge, due for completion in 2017.

The 1,263m-long monster structure will stand 359m high, bridging Bakkal and Kauri.
